John's Journey: Walking Safely Back Home to His Wife
John arrived at Bedford Hills in mid-June this year. John had a specific goal, he stated, “I want to be able to walk safely, so I can go home and be with my wife” John arrived with decreased functional mobility, decrease in strength, functional limitations with ambulation and reduced dynamic balance all due to an infection, leading to septic shock and acute kidney injury.
John was very motivated to improve his abilities and felt stronger and safer with all mobility. John was a very pleasant patient. He stated, “this is a wonderful place, and everyone treats me so well”
John participated with PT and OT 5 days a week. He showed remarkable resilience and with the unwavering support of his family and the dedicated staff and his strong determination to return home. He was able to strengthen, his ambulation improved, and he became more Independent and was able to conquer 10 steps and a bike for 20 mins and slowly became more mobile and much safer.
John expressed his gratitude for the excellent care and support he received at Bedford Hills. He felt fortunate to be in an environment that fostered his healing and progress, and with staff that genuinely cared for his well-being and success!
