From Wheelchair to Walking: Phillip's Recovery Story

Phillip came to Bedford Hills Nursing and Rehab in June 2026, arriving in a wheelchair after knee replacement surgery. His goal was clear from the start: "I want to bend my knee and walk again." Motivated to return to the fully independent life he had at home, he was ready to put in the work.

At his initial evaluation, Phillip was dealing with significant pain and just 79 degrees of knee flexion. Today, he reports a pain score of just 1 out of 10 and has reached 110 degrees of flexion - a significant gain in range of motion that's translated into real improvements in his mobility, including the ability to walk 400 feet.

His progress didn't stop there. Phillip's initial functional reach test measured less than one inch; now he can reach 9.75 inches without losing his balance, a remarkable turnaround made possible by his determination and the therapy team's consistent, hands-on treatment.

Phillip says everyone at Bedford Hills was amazing, and he's incredibly grateful for the people he met along the way. The support and care he received played a crucial role in his recovery, and he's now looking forward to living independently once again. Phillip's positive outcome is a testament to his hard work and the dedication of the Bedford Hills Rehab and Nursing staff.
